Old Business

Evergy/Streetlight issues:  Mayor Moore will follow up with Evergy for status of requested repairs and installations.

Fire Station Repairs:  Danny Bush met with a party interested in submitting a bid for roof/building repairs.  The city has received two bids to date.  A third is required per Fishing River Fire Protection District requirements to fund the project.

City Hall Doors:  John Tennant’s bid to replace the old door was accepted via phone since the December meeting.  The new door is on order and will be installed by Mr. Tennant after arrival.

Ditch clearing:  Work will resume as weather permits.  A forty foot long culvert is ready to be installed at the west end of Talley Alley where it intersects Wood street.

Salaries for Deputies working city hours:  There was a question if our hourly pay for off duty deputies working tours for the is comparable to other in the county.  Mayor Moore explained that all Clay County entities employing such deputies are all subject to the same fees per the standard contract implemented by the County Commission.

Card of appreciation:  Per an arrangement made at the December meeting, Councilwoman Kohl purchased a $100.00 gas card to present to resident Bob Jeffries for his vigilant assistance with the October Clean Up weekend.  It was noted that he monitored the dumpsters to help ensure it was for city residents use only.  Mayor Moore will make the presentation to Mr. Jeffries and turn the receipt over to the Treasurer for reimbursement to Councilwoman Kohl.

Chapter 13 Notice:  The city received a notice at PO Box 264 of a January 16th, 2024 bankruptcy hearing in Brandon Mississippi.  The filing party (initials LMB) has no debts with the city and is not known to the Council.  After discussion, it was determined that no action is necessary.  The notice will be filed with city correspondence.

New Business

Fuel needs for city truck and power tools:  After discussion on how to best provide fuel for plowing by the city truck, Councilwoman Kohl made a motion to authorize the purchase for a $500.00 fuel card.  That would enable the plow driver to drive to a gas station for fill ups rather than transfer cans of gas.  The card can also be used as needed for mower and chainsaws.  The motion was seconded by Councilman Stewart and carried by a 4-0 vote.

Community Calendar:  No events were added.

The next monthly meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 12th, 2024 at 6:30 pm in the MCCA Building.

Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Monte Railey – City Clerk
